At the Lab, we support cities grappling with housing affordability, supply, and other challenges.

Drawing on our original research and evidence-based policy guidance, we offer several training and peer-learning opportunities designed for local leaders and housing stakeholders. These can help communities:

Analyze

Analyze data on local housing needs and conditions and explore policies

Plan

Develop or refine a comprehensive local housing strategy

Design

Design new policies or programs or strengthen existing ones

Collaborate

Strengthen collaboration among housing agencies, stakeholders, and cross-sector partners

Evaluate

Track progress and evaluate outcomes in partnership with the Lab

Peer Cities Networks

The Lab regularly convenes longer-term peer learning networks of city leaders and communities of practice to learn from policy experts, receive tailored technical assistance, and exchange ideas on specific housing policy priorities. Networks meet monthly or quarterly and have recently focused on municipal home repair programs, housing and criminal justice partnerships, and New York State housing policy.

Housing Solutions Workshop

The Housing Solutions Workshop is a short-term training opportunity for cities in the early stages of developing a local housing strategy or refining an existing one. The Workshop guides participants through the steps of developing a strategy and includes sessions on data collection and analysis, policy identification and goal setting, community engagement, funding options, and implementation.

Public Housing Authority Community of Practice

In 2023, the Housing Solutions Lab launched its PHA Community of Practice – a diverse group of public housing agencies and authorities interested in understanding how data and research can inform their work and in exploring and evaluating innovative practices. The Community of Practice meets quarterly. Recent sessions have focused on rental arrears in public housing, voucher success rates, and inspection reforms.
