Data Talks: Understanding Short-Term Rentals

Watch the Housing Solutions Lab’s for 45-minute webinar, the eighth of our Data Talks series. This episode will focus on rental registries and other innovative data tools that can help cities understand the fast-evolving short-term rental landscape in their localities.

Nora Carrier, Predoctoral Research Fellow at the NYU Furman Center’s Housing Solutions Lab, discusses how cities can use federal and local data to better measure the scale and impact of short-term rentals on their local rental stock. A fireside chat follows with Maxwell Ciardullo, Director of Research at the Redress Movement, and Zachary Lenhert, Licensing and Housing Safety Manager for the City of Portland, Maine. They share their involvement with short-term rental policies in New Orleans and Portland, covering what has worked in terms of policy implementation and enforcement, and what other localities can learn from their experiences.
