Harnessing Clean Energy Funds for Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Housing
Watch the recording of the Housing Solutions Lab and the Climate and Community Project‘s free 45-minute webinar focusing on how communities can tap Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funds to advance both climate and housing goals.
Claudia Aiken, Director of New Research Partnerships, and Aisha Balogun, Special Projects Associate at the Housing Solutions Lab, co-hosted the session with Ruthy Gourevitch, Housing Policy Manager at the Climate and Community Project. We discussed the three main categories of IRA funds: rebates, tax credits, and flexible grants, and how communities can access and use those funds to address the intertwined housing and climate crises.
Joining us for a fireside chat was Sarah Ralich, Senior Energy and Construction Manager at ACTION Housing, which works to develop and preserve affordable housing and provides home repairs, weatherization, rental assistance, and other services in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Sarah will discuss how ACTION has approached IRA-related opportunities.
This webinar is part of the Lab’s initiative to provide resources and inform policy at the intersection of housing and climate. Check out recent publications about how communities can equitably prepare for and respond to disasters and electrify homes to meet climate goals. It also builds on important new work from the Climate and Community Project to understand how organizers and advocates can ensure that the IRA doesn’t just benefit homeowners and property owners but also strengthens renters’ resilience, stability, and well-being.
